Development of Audiovisual Speech Enhancement in Children
We are currently recruiting research participants to help us better understand whether visual speech lip affects how effortful it is for children to understand speech.
Who can participate?
- Children ages 8 to 12 years old
- Children who are fluent in English,
- Children with normal or corrected-to-normal vision
Study Requirements
- Visits take place at Boys Town National Research Hospital (555 N 30th St).
- The study typically takes around 2 or 3 hours to complete and can be split into multiple visits.
- Participants may be given tests to see how well they can see, hear, and how they say words. If your child wears hearing aids, we may check how they function. Participants may also be asked to listen to words and sentences and then repeat what they hear.
- Participants may be asked to hold a "buzzer". They will feel vibrations on their palm and be asked to indicate which vibration they felt by touching their answer on a screen, or by pressing a button.
- Parents and caregivers are asked to answer background questions about their child.
Compensation
Research participants will be compensated $20 per hour.
